Mr. Di Bartolo is a New Jersey-based percussionist, composer,
and teacher. He was appointed as the band director at Bell Oaks in the spring of 2012 and is in his fourth year as general music teacher. He has also taught private percussion lessons for nearly 12 years and has served on the faculty at Rowan University as an adjunct professor.
As a freelance musician, Di Bartolo regularly performs in New York City and New
Jersey in concerts ranging from contemporary chamber music and standard
percussion literature to theater and a vaudeville variety show. As a soloist,
Di Bartolo is especially interested in performing contemporary percussion music,
improvisation, and his own compositions.
As a composer, Mr. Di Bartolo has been quite busy writing original music from solos to percussion ensemble works. His first original composition, "Music for 5 Marimbas", was premiered at Rowan University in 2008. He is the recipient of the second prize in the 2012 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest for "From the Ground Up" (medium percussion ensemble and drumset solo). He also won the 2013 Atlanta Symphony Modern Snare Drum Competition's composition contest for "Nine Lives" (solo snare drum) which subsequently gained national recognition. The aforementioned works and "Duo for Snare Drum and Marimba" are currently published by Mostly Marimba's Keyboard Percussion Publications (KPP).
